Silent Saturday: When God Seems Silent

It’s been a day since Jesus died. The Holy Bible doesn’t tell us what was it like to go through the silence of Saturday, to be in the unknown, to have doubt, fear of persecution etc. We all have been in that place. To worry about tomorrow. The why question looms in our minds. Why is God silent when bad things happen to good people?

Often our minds play tricks on us, sometimes it’s our flesh that causes us to doubt, at other times it’s the evil one. Fear sets in, fear turns to anxiety – irrational fear. With fear, one of the Disciples even committed suicide, fear of ‘what if’.
We have a lot of ‘what if’ in our lives – What if this, what if that. The ‘what if’ makes our faith smaller and our problems bigger. But what is Fear really? Fear is an acronym: F.E.A.R – False Evidence Appearing Real.

When danger strikes home, close to one’s heart, when our world is shaken up. What is our response? We can learn from the first disciples:The day after Jesus death was the Sabbath a time of Rest and adoration of the Lord. When bad things happen…who do we seek first for help? God or Man. The first disciples didn’t make a riot on the street to protest the death of an innocent Man, they didn’t appeal to Caesar to hear their case. What did the disciples do? They sought God.

Your situations don’t define you. It’s your choices in those time that define who you are. When God seems silent Trust Him. “Be still and know that He is God.” – Psalm 46:10

This old hymn gives a beautiful summary of this writing:

My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;

All other ground is sinking sand.

The night is the darkest just before dawn. God is working through His silence, Sunday is coming…The gravestone is rolling…life is living, and death is dying.
