Homosexuality: A Deeper Look

This is post is apart of a discussion which I had with some of my friends. The content here are my rebuttals to arguments made against my first post on Homosexuality: A Christian Understanding.

Homosexuality: A Deeper Look

God is a loving God, and in any good relationship we must not take His love and acceptance for granted. Yes, He does love and accept homosexuals. But we must not abuse/exploit that relationship by doing things that hurts God. There are high chances of separation from him.

Who said God/Jesus has not spoken about homosexuality?

Mark 7:20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. (21) For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, (22) Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: (23) All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

Matthew 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. (19) For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: (20) These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

Notice the word ‘Fornication’. In the greek the word is ‘porneuó’. It is the same root word from which we get pornography.

Jude uses this same word ‘Fornication’ (porneuó) and says:

Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

What was happening in Sodom & Gomorrha? Homosexuality – Genesis 19

The word “Homosexual” didn’t exist before the mid 19th century. The word used to describe such oriented people was “Sodomite” or “Sodomy” derived from the Sodom incident.

Other scriptures of reference to Fornication:

Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness … and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Ephesians 5:3-7 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints … For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

Colossians 3:4-6 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

We are all, most definitely “Children of God”. That does not change…what changes is our inheritance, for we become the children of disobedience.

With the earlier references I’ve given …. It doesn’t take a PhD to understand that the Bible describes homosexuality as a sin.

Jesus said “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.” – Matt 5:17

Jesus had high respect for the Old Testament… and the laws and conditions laid down by it. He full fills the requirement of sacrifice which sets us free from the Sins which are caused by the breaking of the Law.

So that we are clothed by Jesus. The very same verse you referred to Galatians 3:26-29. We as children of God having been clothed by Jesus. And Jesus had high regard for the Laws and Norms.

So ask yourself “What Would Jesus Do?” Would Jesus have lived a Homosexual lifestyle?

Some people might think I’m being one-sided with this. My honest approach is that I have thought on this from all angles.

Verses like Leviticus (11:4-7, 12:4, 12:5, 19:19, 19:23, 19:27, 19:28,  25:23, 1 Timothy 2:11-15, 1 Corinthians 14: 34-35, 11:5, Ephesians 5:22-23, Deuteronomy 22:5) are given at a certain day and age for the betterment of people.

When studying the Bible,  some good & healthy questions to ask:

  • Who wrote the book?
  • When did He write it?
  • Who is the audience?
  • What is the Cultural surrounding?

A lot of these quotes have been written in a different cultural context, most of these laws are given as Social Laws.

Some might argue that Gender is a Social construct and hence social laws then and now have changed.

I beg to differ: The terminology behind ‘Male’ & ‘Female’ is a Social construct. You can called them ‘A’ & ‘B’ for all we care. But the fact does not change that by nature their sex organs are different. Evolutionists would call it Natural Selection. On this we have no control of. By nature we are separated Male and Female.

The difference of Male and Female will always based on the different sex organs one is born with. When a child is born… parents don’t determine weather the child is gonna be Male or Female…. neither do they determine weather Straight or Gay. It is by nature a child is born Male or Female.

Therefore Male and Female isn’t determined by society, though the terminology might be.

God was very explicit when He said “Man shall not Live alone” & God made Eve (not Steve) to compliment man. That was the first instance of Marriage in the bible. “They shall Be ONE FLESH. “

This wasn’t a social law like the one in Leviticus and others. Over and Over… This very idea of Marriage between Man & Woman stayed the same from Genesis all the way to revelation in the Bible.

Even if we chuck out the Bible from this whole argument. That doesn’t change the simple fact that “Homosexuality cannot be a worldview,” If the whole world become Homosexual, Then the human race would cease to exist.

The crux of the matter changes drastically when it comes to Nature against Nurture.
